"Relley's"

My sister-in-law is a big fan of abbreviating words she uses with any regularity, or, as she likes to refer to them, "abrev's". They have driven here to visit their daughter in Banff, who's working at Sunshine as a liftie. They stopped by for a visit with the relley's (relatives). Both my sister- and brother-in-law are big baby people, so they were happy to have some Owen time. He was pretty happy to be passed around. He loves to see different faces and always coos at strangers. I have to admit it makes me a little jeleous that he smiles more at others than he does at me, but I know that will change soon enough. And when he does give me a smile, it's the best feeling in the world.

Go Canada

We were invited over to Kelly and Mike's to watch the Canada/US game. We all got decked out in our Canada gear: Kris in his team Canada jersey, me in my CANUCK t-shirt, and Owen in his CANADA shirt that Kris bought for him at the start of the olympics. Gotta support the team.

It wasn't until Canada scored their first goal that I was reminded of how Owen startles at loud yelling, even if it's for joy. He cried, just like he did at Grey Cup.

Alas, all of our Canadian pride wasn't enough to get us a win. It's not gonna be easy, but it should be exciting.

Today's menu

Owen's been eating foods for about three weeks now. He's had rice and barley cereals and sweet potato. And yesterday, I thought I'd try banana. I usually have a banana with my breakfast, so it's easy to do. Just mash with a fork, add a little breastmilk, and presto! He loved it too. I know, big surprise.

Oh when the Saints

We went out to watch the superbowl with "Auntie" Kelly today. Of course, Kris had Owen dressed up in the colors of the team he wished to win - the Saints. We had a good time, even though we were out a little past somebody's bedtime. He didn't seem to mind, as you can see. I think he was just all jazzed up on the excitement of the game and all the milk he pounded.

Mum + Dad = Me

I found this shirt at H&M last week. It was so cute, I had to share.

Things I've noticed lately

I've been pretty lax about the posts lately, so I've compiled a few things I've noticed that I wanted to blog about.

I've noticed that Owen is:
  • way better at grabbing things. He transfers them from one hand to the other easier than he used to.
  • anticipating when something is going to happen. Like, when I'm coming in to tickle him, he will scrunch up his face. Or, when I'm going to give him a kiss on the cheek, he smiles before I plant it.
  • really, really, looking at things... and faces.
  • trying to sit up when he is in his vibrating chair. I know he would jump into my lap if he could.
  • sitting forward when he sits in my lap or on the pillow. He used to recline a lot more. He'll be sitting on his own before I know it.

Skiing in Lake Louise

We went skiing this past Saturday and put Owen in his first full day of daycare. The daycare at Louise was fully licenced and very well run. Kris and I were totally impressed. They give you a pager, have you fill out a ton of information for them, like when his naps will be, whether he's been babysat before, if he takes a soother, how he will be fed (for older kids they even provide snacks and lunch). They have cribs for naps in a seperate room and everything. It was awesome. For first time parents, Kris and I are pretty laid back about these sorts of things and didn't worry at all if he'd be okay.

I was pretty shaky on skis, especially since I didn't get any skiing in last year, being pregnant and all. But it came back to me pretty easily. By the end of the day I was doing black runs and a few moguls. I was pretty tired at the end though. The apre-ski beer is as good as I remember.

I came by half way through the day to feed him and he seemed really happy to see me. When I picked him up at the end, they told me that Owen didn't nap hardly at all - 2 naps, and a total of 45 minutes all day! The girl who took care of him said "He's a really good baby". I've gotta say, I don't ever get tired of hearing that from people. We are so lucky. He IS a really good baby... I wonder if we'll pay for it when he's a teenager. :P
